Transition Program

Kinder to School

Our successful kinder-school transition program begins in August. Children begin with one hour long session to familiarise themselves with the school. Each of the six sessions increases in length, culminating in a full day where children become familiar with the school structure. During this time and throughout their first year, each Prep is paired with a senior student who becomes their ‘buddy’. This senior buddy keeps a careful but distant eye on their little buddy throughout the school day.

Year 6 to Secondary School

Year Six students transitioning to secondary school are also supported in this move. The principal will speak informally with a representative from their school of choice, providing them with information to ensure a confident transition is made.

School Uniform

The wearing of school uniform is valued at Woodside Primary. It assists in creating an atmosphere of uniformity, pride, loyalty and equity. School Council has determined that the wearing of our school uniform is compulsory. In line with Department of Education guidelines our uniform is affordable for all. Very affordable quality second hand uniforms are available to assist families if required. Uniform SunSmart hats with the school logo are supplied by the school for Terms One and Four. Footwear must be enclosed shoes.

School lunch Orders

Each Friday our Parents and Friends club supply hot lunches for the children. Lunch can be ordered via the Skoolbag App on the Communicating with Parents Page or by submitting a lunch order slip by Wednesday each week. Payment must be submitted before any lunch orders are processed, especially for orders received via the Skoolbag App. Parents and Friends have a roster for helpers and encourage new parents to contribute. If you have a spare hour on a Friday and would like to assist please contact the office.

Resources to Support your Child's Learning at Home

Starting school is a big step and can be both challenging and exciting for both parents and children. You can make a difference by supporting what your child learns at school, by helping them to learn at home.

Literacy & Numeracy

The Victorian DET (Department of Education and Training) have produced a booklet called The 201 Literacy and Maths Tips which provides handy hints and ways you can help your child develop literacy and maths skills. It provides practical activities for you do with your child at home and questions you can ask your child to help them learn.

SchoolMate App

The Department of Education and Training Victoria has produced a free App called SchoolMate. This provides a wealth of information for parents about what the curriculum covers at each year level from Foundation to Year 10, and suggests activities and reading that you can do at home to support your child's learning.
